Jake Jenkins was born in Fort Worth but was raised on a cattle ranch near Brownwood, Texas. After graduating from Early High School, Jake attended the University of Texas at Austin. He graduated with a double major in Government and
Economics. It was while attending UT Austin that he got his first taste of the legal world working for the Texas State Senate.
Jake Jenkins then moved to Dallas and decided to continue his education. He enrolled in The SMU School of Law and began to focus on criminal defense and trial work. Jake participated in on-campus Mock Trial Competitions and was first introduced to real criminal defense work with the SMU Criminal Justice Clinic. In that program, he represented individuals charged with misdemeanors including DWI. Jake even got a little bit different perspective on the legal system when he attended the SMU Law School Summer Program at University College in Oxford. He also clerked with a small criminal defense firm in Dallas his last summer in law school.
Upon graduation from law school, Jake decided to focus his energy on DWI Defense. For three and a half years, Jake served as the senior associate attorney at The Coffey Firm. While working at The Coffey Firm, Jake represented those charged with DWI and related offenses.
Mr. Jenkins has always taken a scientific approach to attacking DWI cases. In December of 2003, Jake attended the prestigious Robert F. Borkenstein Course on Alcohol and Highway Safety: Testing, Research, and Litigation. The Borkenstein Course is required for all breath test technical supervisors in the State of Texas. It is this training that allows Mr. Jenkins to successfully attack breath tests. In April of
2010, Mr. Jenkins attended the 17th Annual Mastering Scientific Evidence Conference in New Orleans. Other attorneys have sought Mr. Jenkins's experience and knowledge as they have brought him in as co-counsel to assist with their breath
and blood test cases. In fact he was able to use ths knowledge to secure a not guilty verdict in a case with a .262 breath test in Dallas County.
Jake Jenkins continues to closely follow the future of DWI related legislation and even spoke before the Texas House of Representatives Committee on Law Enforcement during the 2005 session. In 2006 and 2008, Jake spoke at the public
hearings on the on the proposed ALR rule changes at the State Office of Administrative Hearings in Austin.
After securing a not guilty verdict in a difficult Tarrant County DWI with a breath test, Mr. Jenkins was invited by David Burrows to speak at the DWI Winning Edge Conference in February of 2008. Additionally Mr. Jenkins spoke on Texas DWI laws to the Lakewood Service League of Dallas in November of 2008. Mr. Jenkins has also spoken on the law at several local schools in the Dallas area. In 2013 Mr. Jenkins gave a presentation of Texas Gun Laws to The Brown County Safari Club. Mr. Jenkins is currently writing on a book on Texas DWI laws.
